MY LOGO EVOLUTION

All illustrations were hand-drawn on a tablet. Illustrations and layouts were designed using Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.

This purple butterfly logo was the very first logo that I created back in 2019. I based it around the signature of my initials and my childhood dream of wanting to grow up to be a purple butterfly. It's sweet and cute but too detailed, I wanted something minimalist and modern so I scrapped this design.

The next logos I designed were a little more minimalist. I still wanted to use my initials back to back, and at the time I was really into this watercolor ombre look with a thin outline and thin text combo. It was okay, but I decided I wanted to include my full name and lose the "Artistry & Design" element.

Finally, in 2020 I landed on what my logo design is today. My last name is so much longer than my first name, so I have always struggled with incorporating them in my logo because visually they don't look great together horizontally. Staggering my initials allowed me to create a more visually appealing layout for my full name vertically. The overlap in the "J" and "B" brings more attention to "Julia" and "Boothroyd," it also separates the two words and draws attention to the fact that these words should be read vertically. I played around with a few of the details but landed on my final design because I felt like it was easier to read when sized down. By not having any drop shadow or any other details, it makes for a cleaner design so that it's complementary but not distracting from whatever content I have around it.
